Shouldn’t your place of employment – your bread and butter, where you spend more hours than at home – be a safe environment? Yes. It should be, but unfortunately it isn’t always the case.
According to Enjuris, there are common workplace injuries that happen on a regular basis. Some of these accidents could be prevented if certain safety measures came into play.
- Overexertion. This is consistently the #1 injury reported in the workplace. Pushing, pulling, holding, carrying and a variety of other activities have caused serious injury.
- Fall on same level surfaces. This can happen on wet and slippery floors, running into objects that are in the aisles and a variety of other mishaps that cause one to trip and fall.
- Fall on lower level surfaces. Falling off a ladder, stairway or roof onto a lower level can cause serious injury and death.
- Bodily reaction. Injuries can occur when a person reacts to try and prevent falling.
- Struck by objects. Objects that are not secure above your head can fall from shelves or other people dropping them. This can result in serious injury, including brain injury and death.
- Struck against an object. This is when a person is hurt from running into something such as a door, shelf or other object that can cause harm.
- Highway incident. An automobile accident that takes place in a company car or truck is considered a work accident.
- Caught in/compressed by. This usually occurs when very large machinery is in use and a person is ran over, struck by or caught between. This can be a very dangerous situation.
- Repetitive motion. Serious discomfort and injury can occur when a person uses the same parts of the body over and over until there is pain and injury involved.
- Assaults and violent acts. People at work who can’t handle their frustrations and act out in violence may cause harm to their coworkers.
If you or a close family member has suffered from a personal injury while on the job and the employer is not being fair regarding workers’ compensation benefits, you may need to consult with a work injury attorney in your area to guide you in how to handle this difficult situation.
