It’s often difficult to drive without at least some degree of distraction; however, distracted driving accounts for thousands of deaths and an innumerable amount of injuries from auto accidents each year. That being said, it’s more important than ever to exercise caution and to actively avoid distractions while driving. Here are a few things you can do on a daily basis to give more attention to the road ahead:
- Secure loose items before leaving to avoid on-road retrieval
- Set the GPS before you start your trip
- Avoid cell phone calls and texts—turn the phone off if you need to
- Use your passengers to handle potential distractions like rowdy kids or operating the radio
- Do not eat or drink
There are many other ways to decrease the risk of an auto accident, but the most important is to use your best judgment while on the road. If you feel you cannot drive to the best of your ability, pull over or avoid going out at all.
